Just 35 miles northwest of Boston, in the heart of New England, LA is home to 400 students, over half of whom live on campus in 10 student residences.

Academics at LA are strong, the ninth grade program is completely unique to Lawrence Academy. It teaches students how to learn and develop thinking skills rather than immediately be immersed in facts and dates. It develops a strong base upon which students can think more critically and learn more efficiently.

During the senior year, the classes are structured to enhance the ways of thinking of a student. For instance, AP Politics challenges students to take a certain stance on certain issue. AP Environmental Science helps students better understand their impacts on the earth. Honors Creative Writing helps students develop an interest in creative writing. The workload is heavy at LA, but manageable.

The school's advising program, with its bi-weekly comment cards, redefines how students and faculty can interact on a daily basis.

Student Life

Dining at LA served as a comforting break between classes. Students are encouraged to make friends that do not share their classes through the dining hall's tables. The hours were reasonable as the dining hall is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Dorm life help students develop independence, and the structure of study hours enhances students’ ability at college to force themselves to work with the freedom it offers. The rooms are comfortable and large.

Because the school is relatively small, LA allowed interaction among different classes and if you make to move to talk to anyone, and should be able to make many friends.



The Extra-curricular activities such as athletics, help develop a stronger community at LA.

The town of Groton is safe. You will feel completely comfortable walk around in the town. Lawrence Academy is only a few minutes away from Groton center, which has a supermarket, a convenience store, pizza shops, pasta restaurant etc.
