Rice University 是一所小型的私立大學，與其他兩所，北卡羅萊納州的杜克大學和弗吉尼亞州的弗吉尼亞大學齊名，號稱為南方哈佛。

Rice University 多年來以工程、管理、科學、藝術、人類學聞名，以高水準的教學態度、低廉的學費，吸引了不少家庭經濟條件不是很好的學子前來求學，並且提供了213個體育項目方面的獎學金。在眾多的科系當中，物理、英語、歷史、考古學非常受學生們歡迎，工程、醫學預科的錄取率極低，競爭激烈。
