Classes & Study

Harkness System – a great way to learn. Classes are based on a large oval table, present in all classes, around with students and teachers participate in a Socratic-style discussion. It ensures that no one can hide, allows you get to benefit from the insights of your peers, and supports tangential discussions.

Teachers have designated hours every day for students to come meet with them, or additional hours by appointment. The work load is heavy, but helpful in preparation for college. Lawrenceville has a peer tutoring program which is helpful for students who are struggling, being taught by those who are at the top of each class.

The school has strict discipline system and has set study hours and rules in place to ensure students spent their time wisely. While it could be difficult and frustrating at times, it is beneficial to the students in Lawrenceville in the long run.

Dorm

The dorms are beautiful and spacious, nicer than most college dorm. Several dorms are national landmarks and are called “houses” and are treated as such. The food is good and incorporates different meals from different cultures as a way of educating students. There is no concern of safety, and the school employs its own public safety, similar to college campuses. Housemasters are very interested in the lives of students and the student lead prefect system helps assist those students who struggle at times.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Because of the athletic and art requirement, the average student probably spends about 15 hours per week involved in extra curricular activities.

Community service plays a huge role in the school, each student has a minimum amount of hours they must complete by graduation. There are days when the entire school goes together on community service trips to represent the schools efforts.

Socially, the school is very involved in students’ lives and offers opportunities for students to get off campus with faculty supervision and parental permission.
